Austin, TX, December 7, 2011, WhaleShark Media, Inc. (www.whalesharkmedia.com), the world's largest marketplace for online coupons, promotional codes and deals, announced today that Lou Agnese has been appointed as the company's first general counsel.
In his role as WhaleShark's general counsel, Agnese will be responsible for managing all aspects of the company's legal and government affairs, including corporate governance, compliance, labor and employment, advertising, contract and investment concerns. He will sit on the company's executive management team and will report directly to Ken Kieley, WhaleShark's chief financial officer.
“As WhaleShark looks to enter new markets and expand its global footprint as the leader in the online coupon and deals space, Lou brings a unique set of experiences and skills to the role of WhaleShark's general counsel, especially in the area of acquisitions. Prior to WhaleShark, Agnese served in multiple corporate counsel roles for leading firms in Texas. Most recently, Agnese was a senior corporate associate with DLA Piper LLP (US), in Austin, Texas. Prior to DLA Piper, Agnese was a corporate associate with Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP, in San Antonio, Texas.
While in private practice, Agnese represented buyers and sellers in a wide range of private and public M&A transactions ranging in value from $500,000 to $4 billion, and he provided counsel to companies and private equity and venture investors on multiple transactions, including those concerning WhaleShark Media, Inc. Additionally, Agnese advised numerous companies and underwriters in capital markets transactions and with respect to public company compliance obligations.
Agnese has been active in numerous civic endeavors, including serving as a past director on the board of trustees for the San Antonio Public Library, as a past chair of the National Kidney Foundation Invitational Planning Committee and a current director for Junior Achievement of Central Texas.
In 2011, Texas Monthly Magazine recognized Agnese as one of the state's notable young lawyers by naming him a "Texas Rising Star.” Agnese received his J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law in Austin, Texas. He received a B.B.A. in International Business with a minor in Japanese from the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas.
